Virtual interviews

Here we'll be sharing how we're adapting our recruitment process and the best tips on how to prepare for your virtual interview.

Ensuring the safety of our customers, people and candidates is our highest priority. That’s why we’ve been making some changes to the way our recruitment process works, our initial screening calls will stay the same but you will see some changes to the way we’re presenting our practice tours and adapting from face to face interviews to online interviewing.

We’ll be sharing the changes we have made, what to expect and the steps you’ll need to take to ensure that you are fully prepared for your virtual interviews with us.

Your initial screening call

Self-employed Associate roles

Your initial screening call will be done via telephone, meaning that you can do this from the safety of your own home. We will use this time to get to know you and find out about the qualifications and experience you hold. But don’t panic, these are just a series of questions to enable us to give you the best and most suitable opportunities. These questions often consist of the following:

  • Current role
  • Reason for leaving
  • The days and times you’re available to work
  • Current financials and what you’re looking for financially
  • Your current location and if you’d be happy to relocate/commute whilst discussing modes of transport available to you
  • Special interests or specialisms, mentorship skills you may already have or looking to do in the future
  • Previous experience within a corporate
  • We may ask if you’re interviewing elsewhere, and if you’ve received any other offers
Employed Roles

Your initial screening call will be done via telephone, meaning that you can do this from the safety of your own home. We will use this time to get to know you and find out about the qualifications and experience you hold, we will also discuss the job role in more depth. Here are some of the things our recruiters cover on these calls:

  • Going through the job role, and ensure that the hours and location are suitable
  • Check experience and how it’s relevant/transferable
  • Motivational fit is a big one – why have you applied, why Bupa Dental Care?
  • Check that the salary is suitable
  • Check your notice period at your current workplace (if applicable)
  • Talk you through our onboarding process which will begin 2-3 weeks before you start with us
  • There will be an opportunity at the end for you to ask any questions, and to go over anything you may need in more detail

How it works

We’ve changed the way our interviews work. Instead of organising a practice visit, your Resourcing Business Partner will organise a suitable time for yourself and the Hiring Manager to have a virtual interview.

You will be emailed a date, time, and a link to follow that will take you through to ‘Teams’. This is a free app that you can download on your Ipad and mobile – or if you’re using a laptop you can simply follow the link and be taken to the web version.

How to prep for your video interview

Test your equipment beforehand:

  • Ensure you have a good internet signal and make sure that your camera and microphone are in working condition – feel free to you use a headset or some headphones as this will improve the sounds quality
  • If you are using a phone or tablet, find a stable place that you can rest it or prop it on – the more stable the video quality the fewer distractions there will be
  • Ensure that you’re sat in a quiet area with a clear background and suitable lighting in front of you – no need for a fancy light, the natural light from the window will do
  • Treat this in the same way that you would treat a face to face interview – dress smart, be clear in your answer and ensure that you make plenty of eye contact
  • If you have a presentation or portfolio to display, please ensure that you send this over to the hiring manager beforehand and have a trial run of presenting this on a screen

This is a chance for us to find out more about you, but also for you to find out more about us so please do ask questions.

Don’t panic if there’s a technology glitch, if you have done all your checks in advance, then anything that doesn’t work on the day is out of your hands. We’ll follow up should the video call drop out and work out a convenient time to reschedule if required.

Most importantly of all – be you. That’s what we want to see and hear.
