To kick start the series, we caught up with Teifi Geisler who is a dental nurse working at Bupa Dental Care Teignmouth. In her spare time, she plays rugby for Teignmouth RFC.
After joining Bupa Dental Care in November 2019, Teifi became a qualified dental nurse with Distinction in August 2022. We asked her to tell us about her career and why she chose to work at Bupa Dental Care. She said:
“The opportunity arose to become a dental nurse apprentice – I anticipated that it would be a very interesting role that would keep me on my toes. My daughter was two at the time and the practice was happy to accommodate and support my work, training, and family life balance/transition. I love the endless possibilities of dental nursing and the progression opportunities that Bupa Dental Care can provide – it makes me excited about my career going forward.”
Teifi has built strong relationships with her team since joining Bupa and says they make work more enjoyable for her:
“I love the colleagues I have and value the close relationships I’ve developed within the role. This is thanks to the support we give to assist each other’s days, ensuring they go as smoothly and stress-free as possible. The warm welcome I get from colleagues when arriving to work in the morning always makes my day, and of course, the coffee runs!
“I love assisting the dentist I predominately work with, Dr Luisa Capel Delgado, in providing first-class care and attention to her patients. She creates results for patients that are better than they could have imagined.”
When asked to describe her team, she said:
“They’re phenomenal. We continue to go above and beyond for each other, in and out of work, because there needs to be a happy balance for positive reflections within work and in the practice.
“We have so many amazing talents, hobbies and interests within our team; from winter sea swimming to art and painting, fitness, horse riding, cooking, music DJ-ing, aesthetics, martial arts and team sports. My colleagues are my Bupa family.”
Teifi’s passion outside of work is rugby. Currently in her first season, she became interested when she met the team coach at the pub one Friday evening. He suggested that she attend their next training session to see what she thought – she has been there ever since!
We asked Teifi about why she loves rugby:
“Rugby has always been in my family and I thought I would give it a go. I started by going to training sessions and the team soon encouraged me to get stuck in, and with their support and guidance on the pitch, I scored a try in my first game!
“”I play for Teignmouth RFC. This is my first season playing rugby – I wanted to join a team and do something I love. I’ve been able to transfer some skills too – working and communicating within a large team, prioritising and preparation. I find that rugby expels any frustrations and brings joy, so it positively benefits my work life.”
Finally, we asked Teifi how Bupa Dental Care have supported her to do her hobby, she said:
“YES! Bupa Dental Care supports my hobby – they have kindly sponsored me playing for Teignmouth RFC, which was enthusiastically approved by our area manager. The team use our branded Bupa Dental Care bottles for training sessions and a team photo with our sponsor banner is coming soon!”
